Dealing with Difficult Emotions
Emotional regulation has been shown to be a profound predictor
for academic achievement as well as success in many realms of life. Shouldn’t
we then be taking the emotional health of our students as a major focus of our
education? With these lessons we help students to navigate the realm of
emotions, regulating the difficult ones and enhancing the healthy ones.
Students learn to notice the way difficult emotions feel in their bodies and
create impulse control and self-regulation skills. They also can generate
gratitude, happiness, and empathy in learning how to utilize emotions to feel
good and to be good. We can call the following lessons Heartfulness lessons in
which we are attending to the regulating and enhancing of the heart.
